The Division of Neonatology is the only clinic in Switzerland to treat newborn babies exclusively. Close cooperation with the Division of Obstetrics and paediatrics provides continuous and comprehensive treatment for children before, during, and after the birth. The Division enjoys an international reputation due to the development of non-invasive examination methods, the testing of novel treatment methods, and the ethically- and econoically-oriented projects on the long-term development of extremely premature infants.

Together with the Division of Obstetrics, the Division of Neonatology forms the Perinatal Centre of the University Hospital Zurich, which treats premature and sick newborns exclusively. The Centre provides highly specialised treatment for mother and child. First talks with the expectant mother and her partner take place before the birth of the child, and thus diagnostic and therapeutic measures can be planned individually together with obstetricians and other specialists. Being an academic facility, the Division has developed novel non-invasive methods for newborn diagnosis and gentle treatment methods.
