The Division of Cardiology provides the widest range for diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the heart and circulation in Switzerland. It’s diagnostic services include ultrasonography, nuclear medicine examinations, magnet resonance imaging, computed tomography, and catheter interventions as well as the treatment of hypertension, hyperlipidämia, rhythm disorders, congentital heart disease and heart failure. The division is internationally renowned for its research on atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction.
 
The services of the Division of Cardiology include state-of-the-art treatments of all forms of heart diseases. Dedicated teams of experts are available around the clock. A historical milestone for the division was when Andreas Grüntzig performed the balloon dilatation in 1977. The renowned research groups focus on heart imaging, heart rhythm disorders, atherosclerosis, and heart attacks, and they contribute to medical progress and ensure the rapid application of research results to path of management. Today, the division has one of the most frequently cited research groups in the field of cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis. Researchers in the division have received prestigious research awards.

Areas of Specialization:

• Check-ups for assessment of performance and cardiac risk factors
• Diagnosis of and treatment for lipid metabolism disorders including low-density lipoprotein (LDL) apheresis and high blood pressure
• Heart imaging using myocardial scintigraphy, positron emission tomography (PET), magnet resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT)
