Medical Oncology is focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. In the Division of Oncology at the University Hospital Zurich all types of cancer are treated, including leukemias and lymphomas. All patients are offered to participate in national or international clinical research programs to ensure optimal care according to international guidelines and highest scientific standards.
The Division of Oncology provides cancer treatment and care in outpatient and inpatient settings, including palliative care. Check-up examinations, assessment for second opinion, genetic counseling and up-to-date diagnostics are offered, including molecular genetics of cancer, cell biology and modern imaging techniques like PET/CT scanning. Cancer treatment regimens follow international standards and guidelines. The University Hospital Zürich is the largest cancer centre in Switzerland, offering all subspecialities in the field. The Swiss Center for Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Diseases, jointly operated with the Division of Visceral Surgery and the Division of Gastroenterology, is an internationally recognised centre for the multidisciplinary treatment of cancerous diseases of the liver, the bile ducts, and the pancreas. The division also provides stem cell transplants, complementary medicine and palliative care. The Cancer Centre at the University Hospital Zurich is closely connected to the Centre of Clinical Research of the University of Zurich, which focuses on the development of novel treatment modalities. A special focus of clinical research is the field of Cancer Immunotherapy in collaboration with the Cancer Vaccine Collaborative supported by the Cancer Research Institute (
