Institute of Experimental Immunology
Christian Münz MDProfessor and Chair The Institute of Experimental Immunology is a part of the Department of Pathology in the University Hospital Zurich and a joint facility of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. The institute’s main activities are teaching and research in the area of immunology. The Institute of Experimental Immunology teaches immunology at the Medical Faculty and at the Natural Sciences Faculty of the University of Zurich as well as in the Biology Department at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Besides graduate papers, doctoral theses for biologists, and post-graduate training for physicians and further education programs, the institute participates with others in “general pathology” lectures in the Medical Faculty of the University. The institute cooperates with national and international research groups and editorial boards. The former professor Rolf Zinkernagel received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his important research in the field of immunology. Areas of Specialization: Research on the role of CD4+ helper cells in the control of acute and chronic infections Examination of the induction of antibody and cell-mediated immune responses Specificity analysis of cell mediated and antibody-dependent immune responses Examination of the mechanisms of immunologic tolerance to virus infections Influence of maternal antibodies on neonatal immunization Research in the field of immunopathology, immunosuppression and autoimmunity
