Reconstructive surgery means surgery performed to correct or repair structures of the body for functional or aesthetic/cosmetic reasons. The main fields include plastic surgery, hand surgery or burn surgery. The combination of highly qualified, experienced, and competent teams of surgeons along with a modern infrastructure and the close proximity to science and research departments make it possible for the division to provide high quality medicine.

The Division of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery provides the entire spectrum of plastic reconstructive surgery. Whereas reconstructive surgery involves the repair of structures or functions of the body, aesthetic surgery means surgical changes performed on the human body for aesthetic reasons. All acute and chronic diseases of the hand are treated in the Division of Hand Surgery. As a referral clinic, there is also a Burn Centre with an Intensive Care Unit and a specially-equipped operating room. The Division of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery provides 24-hour emergency services by plastic surgery professionals. There are several operating rooms with modern technical equipment and highly qualified personnel. In addition to several clinical research projects on follow-up procedures and evidence-based examinations of new therapy approaches, basic research is also important. It focuses on the following areas: tissue engineering, microcirculation, ischaemia/reperfusion, burn surgery and anti-aging therapy.
