The Division of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery provides sophisticated treatments and has a worldwide reputation. The division’s doctors and nurses care for more than 15,000 outpatients and 2,000 inpatients annually. It is based on the pillars of care, cure, science, and research.
The Division of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery brings together top-tier, vast knowledge and experienced treatment. In subcranial surgery, the department developed a microsurgical operation technique that is now recognized worldwide today. The Cochlea Implant Centre ensures that deaf patients receive lifelong care that is the best available. Furthermore, the department focuses on the early detection of defective hearing within newborns and children, which is extremely important for linguistic development. Benign and malignant tumours in the areas of the oral cavity, the throat, skull base, and face are cured through surgery. In addition, the division diagnoses and treats all kind of nasal diseases. Complex operations of sinuses and of the skull base are carried out with state of the art technology. Research focuses on the mechanisms of the inner ear, including mechanics of the ossicles, the function of the cochlea and the vestibular organ, and improvement of hearing through surgery and implants. In addition, tumour diseases in the throat, face region and the ear are being researched here.
