Vocational training

The University Hospital Zurich (UHZ) offers professional training courses in practice for numerous nursing, medico-technical and medico-therapeutic occupations (these links will forward you to the German version of this website – a good command of German is a prerequisite for taking part in training courses at the UHZ).

Vocational training at the UHZ is part of a trial training system: within a training facility, in an educational establishment and at an external inter-company training center or a third-party learning center. Learn the skills needed for your occupation in a dynamic environment: specialist knowledge, solution-oriented conduct, secure methods, and social and personal skills.

Target group

Practical professional vocational training is for young people and adults, individuals and groups, and people who have completed upper secondary or tertiary education, are in extra-occupational post-graduate studies or are currently in training for their first or second profession.

Vocational training at the UHZ is based on a humanistic point of view. The learning environment is characterized by a respectful attitude towards all course participants. Teachers incorporate personal resources and prior knowledge of the apprentices into the program. Optimum teaching and learning methods facilitate and foster the learning process.

Those in charge of training work closely with specialists at the UHZ and relevant educational institutions. Institutes such as vocational schools, training centers, universities, organizations from relevant industries and cantonal authorities participate in the vocational training programs.

Further development

Practical professional vocational training is regularly coordinated with developments in occupational profiles at national and international level, curricular developments at training centers and developments and current topics in health care and health sciences. We actively continue to shape the UHZ vocational training programs on the basis of new research findings.

The UHZ considers the quality of its training to be of paramount importance. This quality is assured by a modern training concept and close individual supervision of the students. Specially trained vocational instructors strive to provide this in the various departments. Education representatives support students in all fields of medical specializations covered by the training and transfer learning field (LTT).

Joint learning

Students work with other students as part of a learning and training community to give them the opportunity to learn from one another. As the UHZ covers all specialist areas, there is certainly no shortage of insight or learning opportunities for the students.
